Classical Trombones
The measurments of the STANDARD and HISTORIC trombones are identical.
- STANDARD
- Instrument in brass; bell entirely hand hammered; German silver (nickel silver) inner slides, chrome plated; sleeves decorated; garland and bell stay engraved.
- HISTORIC
- Instrument in brass; bell entirely hand hammered; brass slides; all tubing except slides and sleeves made from hammered sheet metal with soldered seam according to historical examples; sleeves, garland and bell stay decorated and silver plated; the instrument is burnished by hand according to historical methods before it is polished.
The original instruments did not have tuning slides. However, we furnish our alto and tenor instruments with a tuning slide at the bell bow because it is both useful and easy to integrate into the design.
The alto trombone after Crone has historical slide positions. The alto and tenor trombones after Schmied are also available with historical slide positions on request, but are normally made with modern slide positions, i.e. with the rim of the bell at third position.
The HISTORIC models are made according to historical manufacturing techniques. Through a preliminary treatment of the sheet metal, a metal structure similar to the molecular structure of historical sheet metal is attained, whereby the timbre of the finished instruments approaches still closer that of historical instruments. Historical techniques are also applied at some points in the manufacture of the STANDARD instruments, especially where the bell is concerned.
